There are two types of flow cytometers: those that analyze cells and those that separate cells.
Of these, the device that separates cells is the cell sorter.

A cell sorter separates cells of a specific type or nature from a mixture of various cells.

For example, blood contains many types of cells.
Only neutrophils can be isolated from them.

Also, suppose that a gene is introduced into a cell.
Then there will be two types of cells, one with the transgene and one without the transgene.
Only the transgenic cells can be isolated from these two types of cells.

It is also possible to separate single cells from countless cells.

The principle is as follows.
Label cells with an antibody or other fluorescent marker for a protein that is uniquely expressed in the cell.
The cells are then separated using the fluorescent label as a landmark.
